Alaya (pronounced ah-lie-ah) lives, writes, cooks and (perhaps most importantly) eats in New York City. Her literary loves are all forms of speculative fiction, historical fiction, and the occasional highbrow novel. Her culinary loves are all kinds of ethnic food, particularly South Indian, which she feels must be close to ambrosia. She graduated from Columbia University in 2004 with a BA in East Asian Languages and Cultures, and has lived and traveled extensively in Japan. Her first novel, Racing the Dark, is forthcoming in October from Agate Publishing.

I just bought your book & i am almost done with it..i cant put it down! I find myself staying way past my usual bedtime reading into the wee hours. I look forward to more books in the Spirit Binder series. We need more people of color writing in the genre of sci fi/fantasy. I love it!! Be well & blessed be.
Thanks so much, April! I’m working on book 2 now, so hopefully you won’t have to wait too long 🙂
I just completed your first novel and I must say that I look forward to reading the second. A great story which left me wanting more. I will be quite honest, I was wary of reading the book because I had never heard your name before but I love reading new fantasy and I will admit seeing a woman of color writing fantasy was of interest. You are in the realm of Octavia E. Butler. Thank you again for a good read.
I love your site!
